The Steam version launches an updated/combined Cryptic/Arc Launcher (aka typically called the Steam launcher). I went through a really hard time during these transitions getting my account squared away, so def feel your pain. After Perfect World bought out Cryptic and updated the game to handle Steam (possible Cryptic did this before PW bought them, but it's not too important anymore), there's bound to be a lot of legacy code, where Cryptic may still pop up in various forms. Cryptic built their original launcher and engine from what they learned building City of Heroes. It's because Star Trek Online was originally not a Steam-enabled game. Why the hell is it so hard to make tech that isnt a total pain in the ass to use. I am not stupid and of course could have most likely somehow solved this issue but for godsakes. Yes I am a bit mad but it is because the client and game account architecture is beyond horrendus. That would be like downloading valorant from steam, then playing without an account until you get the Riot clinet, but you also have to re downloadd the entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. My question is why the hell is the game available on steam when the arc launcher is a thing. I then see that my account name on the "steam version launcher" i beleive it was called cryptic launcher, was a hyper link, so i click on it and low and behold it takes me to an arc sign in screen. Only two options, neither of them were it. I think maybe it asked me to input an email account when i first launched star trek online, so I used my only other gmail address I have. It asks me to sign in so I try my steam account as that is where i downloaded star trek online. So i do my own research and go download it. Only i dont have that or have any idea what it is. I simply need to go to the arc launcher, easy. 90 cents and start to look for where to redeem the code that i now have. After finally completing the gut wrenchingly distastful tutorial of this game, I then decided I wanted to spend.
