It shoots really nice, and I got the best velocity and smoothest recoil impulse with it. I also recommend trying the SBR SOCOM powder. I think 458 needs something in between a standard and a magnum, and Winchester seems like they would work great. I would recommend grabbing a brick of each to screw around with to figure out what your gun likes.Īlso, my plan once all this shit is over, is to switch to Winchester primers in 458. They are pretty soft.ĬCI LPPs aren't particularly hard to find in either the magnums or standards. I've used Fed primers in 458 SOCOM, but only when I can't find anything else, and I treat dropping the bolt like pulling the trigger with those. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with H110. Actually, I found W296 just terrifying in 458 SOCOM. However, the 350s were downright terrifying with W296. The 300s with SBR SOCOM were a little more consistent, and with 2200 they had some unburnt powder I didn't get with the 350s. This propellant has a burn rate and temperature sensitivity very similar to Hodgdon. I've tested CCI 350 and 300s with 2200 and SBR SOCOM, and it looked like they are basically interchangeable with those powders. I have been blowing up hogs with the 458 for a few years now and I will say that it is one of the best pig killing loads out there. SOCOM, where rapid transformation from powder to gas is desired.
